NaPoWriMo 2

April 2, 2012

link to NaPoWriMoIt was my last day at work today, I’m taking a break over the Easter to look after the kids and spend some more time writing.  As always with a last day at work I was keen to clear my desk so that when I return the pile of waiting work hasn’t grown too much.  After work I couldn’t face getting involved in the rush hour traffic so I sat down with a coffee to write.  After a lot of attempts to write some weighty words I found myself becoming increasingly stuck.  So I relaxed and allowed myself to think about what I’d like to do with my break, and soon these words came about.  I they are heavily Yorkshire referenced but I hope that doesn’t detract.  In an unusual step, I’ve also added some punctuation.

Going home

I could be on Pen-y-Ghent.
Skylarks calling over my head
whilst I stare out over the
red brown sands
of Morecambe bay.

Or wandering Dentdale’s
hawthorn bordered
ancient roads.

Or climbing the Howgills
empty, wind combed slopes.

Or dabbling for tiddlers
with my young children
in the icy clear waters
of the Lune.

But I’m not, yet.
I’m waiting for the endless
metal chain of rush hour traffic
to break.
Releasing my trapped car
and body.
Released from
journeyman bondage
I can move as freely
as my longing mind.
To where the clean wind blows
and I’m renewed.
