Poem:  I like poetry that is honest and feels authentic but I find it can be difficult to be honest to myself, especially when I feel like I’m revealing something that feels like a flaw.  However, I decided to be brave and in turn I like this poem.  Tiddlers are small fish, the sort that young children try and catch in a net

Derailed by detail

I’m easily derailed by details
as soon as we get into details
my mind hopefully scoops a handful
then runs off
spilling them as it goes

they glint momentarily
like tiddlers in grass
spilt from a child’s jam jar
frantically flapping and twisting
fighting to live

‘Take us through the disaster recovery plan if the servers don’t arrive…’

So they’re abandoned
their dulling bodies die forgotten.
I struggle to refocus
as fresh specifics are frantically
ladled from the ever giving waters
of the
minutiae sea
my fleet footed mind endlessly
grabbing and running
fearful that they too will
slip through my fingers and die
like a child trying to place
tiddlers back in a jar
