Technology: I don’t know what I’ve done.  I set up a new page called Story(ies)? and published a flash fiction piece up there which then appeared on my main page.  I guess as the days roll into months I’ll become more adept at using this blog.  To think I work in IT!

People: I read the Hogwarts Musings tonight at an open mic event.  It went OK but every event has feedback and I knew that I’d not done my work justice.  It is in this light that I move onto my poem.

Poem:  When I’ve performed well I know it.  When I don’t perform well, I also know it.  So when I don’t perform as well as I’d like to I take some notes to understand what I need to change for next time.  This poem is less a beautiful piece of hand crafted artistry and more a checklist.  But I’m going to call it a poem!

Performance tips

Be confident in my material
If I don’t like it
why would I want to share it?

Taking risks and  making experiments
also requires confidence

Don’t perform for other people
playing to the crowd
is only playing to a particular section.
The crowd want me to be me

But do connect with them
not connecting and sharing
a journey is to leave the audience
lost, bemused or at worst

I will do work I want to share
I must know my work
I love dynamism and the audience
respond to this as it will
build emotional connections

Show, don’t tell.  If people want preachers
there’s plenty of pew space in churches

Be who I am and never apologise
for this

I must place my vanity to one side
to whit
I must never forget my glasses again!
