Poem:  So many people, so many thank yous, so many late nights.  I’ve been to a party tonight to celebrate a 50th birthday.  I walk home, late,  drunk, weaving from pavement to road, wishing I were in bed. As I walked I though ‘How cool is five reflections and his haiku’s?  He’s really brilliant, I wish I could sum the world up like him.  I was caught by the haiku bug.  But stopping in the midnight lit road with notebook and pen in hand causes attention.  The Police were a little suspicious of a drunk guy writing poems writing haiku’s at one in the morning.  They stopped their car to ask what I was doing.  Apparently attempting to write haikus after midnight in a residential area is suspicious.  So my offerings are not all haiku’s but do reflect my journey home.  Enjoy, and I’m off to bed having persuaded the police that writing poems isn’t a criminal offence.  Weird, but not criminal.

late night haikus (apart from one)

party blurred faces
snippets of conversation
loud noise and small talk

music in my ears
my feet striding to the beat
all praise the walkman

police car stops and
asks me ‘what are you doing?’
writing midnight haikus

absolutely sure
my legs will carry me home
i keep on walking

the moon hides himself
between duvet clouds and me
we watch each other

Oh that is good, I really chuckled

  2. Thanks Ian. It was weirdness for all concerned.

  3. Nothing surprises me. I’ve been moved on and forbidden to draw more times than I care to remember!

  4. Odd isn’t it. Have you ever argued to stay? [weak joke warning] Are you asked to withdraw?
