NaPoWriMo – April 23

April 24, 2013

napo2013buttonThis is probably one of my darkest poems.

Hide and seek and destroy

Coming ready or not!

I open my eyes and quickly spot the eager

anticipating face of the child hiding ineptly behind a tree.

The face disappears but with my target located I

stride the ten paces, pounce upon him and shout

I’ve found you – round one to me.

Coming ready or not!

the dulled voice of the child found too quickly

reaches my hiding place

He’ll never find me.  Hiding in a tree only adults

could climb.  Obscured from the ground by thick leaves

Minutes pass.

Where are you?

Where are you?

But now anxious.

I remain silent gleefully springing this trap.

Pleading, uncertain, unsure, unsafe

Still I wait, silent.

Dad! Fear now and soon…

Dad! Tears in the voice

And I explode from the tree

shocking the child.

Blowing him to pieces.

Tears erupting

I hold my arms open and the child

uncertainly comes towards me

I know how this game works

Now you know who the boss is.

Round two to me.
